Service and Mission Committees

Below are brief descriptions of the commissions and committees on which members can serve in order to make up the loving and compassionate community of Eliot Church.

Care Team & ​Prayer Group

The Caregivers Group works with Rev. Rick to reach out to home-bound members and others in need in our congregation, providing rides, meals and friendly visits. The Prayer Group prays for all who have made prayer requests each week.

Christian Education (CE) Commission

The CE Commission helps implement and support Sunday school classes week to week and special events throughout the year. The CE Commission works closely with Dr. Elizabeth. The Commission focuses on programs for ages birth through 12th grade. 

Facilities Commission

This team is responsible for overall building and plant maintenance to keep the church in good repair. We also oversee building improvements such as the installation of solar panels on our roof in 2016. We are responsible for rentals of church space and maintaining their contracts.

​Finance Commission

The primary duties of the Finance Commission are preparing and recommending the annual budget to the governing body and the congregation.  They monitor expenditures in relation to that budget and promote stewardship.

 Investment Committee

The Investment Committee is responsible for investing all trust and endowment funds on behalf of the church and monitoring these investments.

Leadership Council

The Council is composed of officers of the church: moderator, moderator-elect, clerk, treasurer and members at large, elected at the annual meeting.

 Memorial Garden Committee

The beauty of this sacred space is maintained through the loving care of this committee. The ashes of members who have passed can be interred in the garden and commemorated by an engraved brick.

Mission & Social Justice (MSJ) Commission

This commission offers Christian service opportunities that address social injustice, promote community building and facilitate faith development. We support local, national, and international programs both with our time and financial support. Please visit MSJ's webpage for more information.

Parish/Staff Relations (PSR)

The PSR is responsible for a variety of personnel functions, including some staff hiring, evaluations, salary and benefit recommendations, job descriptions, and personnel policy recommendations.  ​

Spiritual Life Commission

This commission, in consultation with the Minister, supports the spiritual life of the congregation; through worship, adult forums and sacred conversations, retreats and women's spirituality gatherings. 

Women's Spirituality

All women are invited to gather in the parlor once a month for a time of meditation, prayer and conversation. It's a wonderful way to get to know others on a deeper level. ​
