IF YOU ARE NEW |
![]() |
If you are new, welcome! We know that entering a church for the first time can be a little intimidating, but we hope that you will feel warmly welcomed and comfortable at Eliot Church. We know that some people have been hurt or excluded by a church community or overwhelmed with over-eager welcome! Not to worry, most of us are just like you. Eliot is a spiritual home to people from all walks of life - believers and seekers, people from a range of backgrounds and faith perspectives. No matter what, we welcome all people as children of God, including lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. We come together, to worship God, to learn to be more like Jesus, and serve God's world with justice, love, and grace. Please know, that if you visit Eliot, we will make you feel welcome, and we will also give you the space you need to decide if we are a good fit for you. If you have questions, are wrestling with faith, want to tell your story to someone, or get more details about our life together, please contact one of our pastors, Rev. Debbi Carter, or Rev. Karla Miller What To ExpectWhat happens in Church? Most people find their way to us through Sunday worship, which is every Sunday at 10:00 am, and lasts about an hour. When you enter the church, someone will greet you and give you a bulletin to guide you through the service. Our service includes readings, preaching , prayers, music, and a special time with children. At times, you will be invited to stand, sing, pray, greet your neighbor, be in silence, or read responsively. On the first Sunday of the month, we celebrate Communion, which is open to all. You can learn more about worship practices on our worship page. Do you offer childcare or Sunday School?Children and families of all kinds are cherished at Eliot. Professional childcare for infants and toddlers is available during worship, and Sunday School is offered for pre-kindergarten through high school. Children are always welcome in worship, as well. Learn more about our youth and children's programs on our Spiritual Formation page. What should I wear?Whatever makes you feel comfortable! Some people show up in their Sunday best, and others show up in their favorite jeans and t-shirts. Is there a coffee hour or fellowship time after worship? After each worship, we have a time for fellowship and refreshment. There is always fair trade coffee, tea, and something delicious to nibble on. Is there a Sunday Adult forum?Several times a month, at 11:30, an adult forum is held in the parlor. Once a month, someone from the congregation shares their Spiritual Story, which sparks great discussion. Other forums usually focus on a justice or mission issue; or a guest speaker, a bible study, and more. There are other opportunities during the week for small groups, and you can find out more on our Spiritual Formation page. Is the church handicap accessible? Our building is wheelchair accessible and we offer hearing assistance devices in the sanctuary to work with or without a hearing aid. We also offer a large print bulletin each Sunday. How can I get more information? Please feel free to chat with one of our pastors after church, or email info@eliotchurch.org, and we will make sure your questions goes to the right place.
