We as a Christian faith community, by God’s grace, strive to provide our members with Christian roots and an experience of faith formation and transformation, through which we will know who we are and what we believe. from the Eliot CE Mission Statement
At Eliot, Christian Education is for everyone!
Our Eliot Christian Education program is guided by our UCC heritage as a reformed and reforming church. As the Body of Christ, we strive to give our children: the Bible, our faith stories, rituals and sacraments, history and traditions, prayer, worship, hymns and psalms, circles, service, mission fun and fellowship. Thus, our children will discover their own faith stories.
During the program year, we offer Church School programming for children and youth, from infants to high school age, led by able volunteers. For 2007-2008, we are using the Living the Good News curriculum for pre-kindergarten to 5th grade.
A special Tweens (grades 6-7) curriculum is being designed around the theme of Loving God, Loving the World which through story, drama, mission projects, and creative actions will help us to live our faith in everyday life.
Our high school students serve in leadership roles, assisting the Teacher Liaison in the management of the CE resource room, providing support to teachers in classrooms as well as participating in special mission projects .
An essential piece of spiritual formation is our confirmation program, which begins a new cycle every other year. We also plan monthly activities and service projects for youth, and during the Fall of 2007, we will be launching Newton-wide UCC youth happenings for senior high students.
At Eliot, our children and youth are precious to us. We implement a safe church policy and we continually review our procedures as to fulfill our mission in providing “a safe and sacred place in which to discover the meaning of the Christian faith”
Adult education at Eliot is experienced in several venues. Various forums after Sunday worship focus on mission and social justice issues, sermon talk-backs, and spiritual journey stories from members. In addition, every Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m., a lectionary based bible study is led by our Senior Pastor, Tony Kill. The Spiritual Life Commission sponsors a church-wide evening retreat in the fall, a women’s retreat in the winter, and an annual Lenten Wednesday evening series.
For more information, please contact Rev. Karla Miller, our associate pastor.
