Infants and Toddlers Eliot provides infant and toddler care during the worship services. A silent pager system allows parents to attend services with the assurance that they will be notified if their child needs their attention. Children are also always welcome in worship!
Sunday School Our Sunday School program begins at age 3 up through high school. Our Sunday School day begins at approximately 10:15 each Sunday, following a Children’s Time near the beginning of each service. Children leave the Sanctuary to go to their classrooms and attend Sunday School until the end of services. Children remain with their parents during special services at Christmas and Easter.
We have a committed team of over 30 volunteers and a strong teacher support program in place. This year, we are using Living the Good News curriculum in the in the lower grades through grade 5 and a special curriculum designed for 6-7 graders that will focus on mission, Our high school students serve in leadership roles, assisting the Teacher Liaison in the management of the CE resource room, providing support to teachers in classrooms as well as participating in special mission projects, such as preparing lunch for the Common Cathedral. All of our children and youth participate in worship and creative programming throughout the year.
Mission and service is also important to our Sunday School Program. We encourage involvement in caring outreach projects both close to home, such as making valentines for shut-ins and stocking backpacks with school supplies for children of incarcerated parents, and globally, by sponsoring animals through donations to the Heifer Project.
We also strive to cultivate an awareness of the spiritual discipline of generosity and giving. Every week we take up an offering during each church school class to which we give to local and national organizations. Last year, (2006-2007) our Sunday School contributed over $800 to Seedlings, which makes Braille books for children, The Outdoor Church of Cambridge, a ministry to women and men who are homeless in Cambridge, the MSPCA and its fund for needy pet owners, the Heifer Project, and the City Mission Society of Boston, along with support for a child care center in New Orleans affected by Hurricane Katrina.
If you would like more information or have questions about our church school program, please contact our associate pastor, Rev. Karla Miller.
